Still Waiting
Two years ago today my wife began her journey with a rare condition called Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a very rare side effect to a common flu shot that causes partial paralysis. I wrote about the lessons that God began teaching us that day about waiting on Him just a couple of days later here in the Daily Bide.
Today, we still find ourselves waiting for the nerves in my wife's right leg to regenerate. For the most part, she has no feeling at all in the lower half of her leg. Occassionally, she will feel some sensations. So we wait, patiently, and count our blessings everyday that she can walk on her own and enjoy the life we have together.
Maybe God will bring complete restoration to her leg in this life, maybe He won't. It's His call, but we know He is in control.

Psalm 27:13-14 (ESV)
13 I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD
in the land of the living!
14 Wait for the LORD;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the LORD!
What Does God's Story Teach Us About Waiting?
Waiting isn't something that most of us enjoy, is it? After all, who picks the longest line at the store, on purpose! Who pulls over and lets others get ahead of them at the drive-thru when we see the line growing behind us, just so we can wait a little more. Two years ago we found ourselves in a hospital waiting for results of the tests, waiting for the wonderful words - "Okay, time to go home!" Today we are still waiting for continued healing in my wife's leg. We continue to make today's scripture our prayer as we "look upon the goodness of the LORD."
How can I connect today's God's Story to My Life?
- Find a place where you can be alone with God this weekend and simply wait on Him. Wait for Him to suprise you.
- Ask God to forgive you for any times that you have been impatient with Him.
How can I connect Today's Story, God's Story, and My Story with Others?
- When you are hanging out with your friends this weekend, use the times when you find yourself waiting to deepen your friendship. Whether it's waiting in line for a new release movie or waiting for a table at some restaurant, strike up some conversations that could be directed toward God's Amazing Story.
- Talk with your friends this weekend about how they feel when they have to wait for something.
- Take a bold step and ask them what they think it looks like to "wait for the Lord."
