More Words To Live By

Huckabee praises Obama as a ‘role model’ for family values

A day after he defended Michelle Obama against GOP attacks, Mike Huckabee praised President Obama, calling him a "role model" for family values.
In remarks at the National Press Club, the former Arkansas governor and potential 2012 hopeful urged conservatives to stop questioning Obama's faith, adding that he believes Obama personally sets a good example for the nation.

"He has personally articulated, not once but numerous times, of his Christian faith. I take him at his word. I have no reason not to. For us to continue to dwell on that is missing the point.

I have no disagreement with President Obama as a human being. In fact, I will go so far to say one of the things I respect very much is the role model that he has served as a husband and father," Huckabee said, per CNN's Alexander Mooney.
"I think he has been an exemplary husband to his wife and an extraordinary father to his daughters," he continued. "Frankly, America needs a good role model like that... He has given us an excellent example of a person who has his priorities straight in marking out time for his wife and raising his daughters in a disciplinary environment in which he recognizes that he the parent is responsible for the atmosphere in which they are raised. And I commend him and salute him for that."

Proverbs 16:24 (ESV)
Gracious words are like a honeycomb,
sweetness to the soul and health to the body.
What does God's Story teach us about our words?
When the names Mike Huckabee and President Obama have been used in the same sentence in the last few years, it has almost always been in regards to opposing political views.  Not this time, however.  Mike Huckabee took the high road in Today's Story and was a great example of today's God's Story scripture about "gracious words."  Sometimes we may have to defend even those we usually oppose.  When we do, those "gracious words" are like honey.
How can I connect today's God's Story scripture to My Life?
Do you struggle with using gracious words towards those who may oppose you? Ask God to work in your heart and give you gracious words for others.  More than just gracious words, ask God to give you a heart for those who oppose you.  Allow God to love them through you.
How can I connect Today's Story, My Story, and God's Story to Others?
Think of someone who usually opposes you in some way.  Pray for them.  Ask God to work in their heart to bring them into a relationship with Him.  Ask God to give you opportunties to spend some time with those who oppose you, so that you might be able to share a little of God's Story by how you live your life.
