"Snow Day!"

Across the Midwest and Northeast the weather often forces schools to close during the winter. Today is such a day in our part of the country. Some students will opt to stay in and play video games, watch movies, or hang out on Facebook. Others will get outside if they can stand the bitter cold. How would you spend a day of extra time if it were given to you?

2 Thessalonians 3:6-8 (ESV)
Warning Against Idleness
6Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us. 7For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not idle when we were with you, 8nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you.
What does God's Story teach us about using our time wisely?
Idle is simply defined as "doing nothing" (dictionary.com). Sometimes it is nice to just do nothing. Other times it can be very dangerous to do nothing. Have you heard the old saying, "Idle hands are the devil's workshop"? Our enemy knows that we can be very vulnerable when we find ourselves with nothing to do. So how should we handle it? Paul tells us the Thessalonians to follow his example by working hard. Read on for some suggestions on how to use our time wisely on a "snow day."
How can I connect today's God's Story scripture to My Life?
- If you are in a part of the country where school is closed today because of the weather, grab a shovel and start shovelling snow. Not just for your own house, but for some of your neighbors as well.
- Spend some extra time with the Father today. Read His Story. Talk to Him. Listen to Him.
- If you don't live in an area affected by the weather, make a commitment to find some time over the course of this weekend to consider the suggestions above.
How can I connect Today's Story, My Story, and God's Story to Others?
- Get outside and play in the snow with some friends. Have a snowball fight. Build a snow man, or a snow fort.
- Spend some extra time with your family today or sometime over the weekend.
- Spend some time today getting to know more about a friend's story.
