Couple Married and Divorced On Same Day

A polish couple who were living in Germany decided to get married over the weekend. What they didn't plan for was that they would be getting divorced as well.

Soon after the couple were married they began to fight. The scene got ugly because the man was chasing his bride around trying to cut her hair with a kitchen knife.

The new bride called the police and a restraining order was issued but not before both parties decided to get a divorce.

The man then left and spent his honeymoon in a homeless shelter.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

What does God say about love?

The story above is an odd one that for sure. You could see a late night comedian getting some laughs over their unfortunate relationship. As crazy as this story appears, there are undoubtedly some similarities that all people can relate to.

We all struggle to understand what love is. The world has their view and God has his. We can talk about romantic love and brotherly love until we are blue in the face. There are some differences we can see plainly but the essence of God's love is an action.

God's love requires us to be patient with everyone. To consider others before ourselves. To not try to make others look bad so we can receive the glory. It gets excited about the goodness of God.

If you are confused today about what love is, look to God and His word and take action to love as He has loved us.

  • Write out some sentences describing your view of what love is or ought to be.
  • Compare your version with God's in 1 Corinthians 13. How are they similar? How are they different?
  • Pray that God would teach you how to love.
  • Be aware of the relationships around you this summer. It is often in the midst of friends fighting (or boyfriends and girlfriends) that God will provide an opportunity to share His love.
  • Share with them how God has taught you about love when God provides the opportunity.
