Flights Wait as Greek Air Traffic Controller Sleeps

Two planes were forced to circle over a
Can you imagine the surprise, or even shock, when the pilots tried (for over 40 mintues) to get permission to land from someone who was still at home in bed? We expect such critical services as air traffic control to be done perfectly, but people are only human - no one is perfect.
Is Anyone There???
WOW. This passage would make a great sermon! Look these verses up in your Bible and underline them. Then memorize them. Then tattoo them down your arm. OK, maybe the tattoo is a little overboard. But look back over the truths in these three short verses:
- God has plans for YOU!
- The plans are GOOD!
- You WILL call on God.
- God WILL listen.
- You WILL find God if you sincerely seek Him.
God never oversleeps. His air traffic control tower is never empty. As Francis Schaeffer writes in one of his most famous books, He is There and He is Not Silent:
"We can say it in another way, however, and that is that the infinite-personal God, the God who is Trinity, has spoken. He is there, and he is not silent. There is no use having a silent God. We would not know anything about him."
So what's the flight plan of your life this school year? Do you feel like you know where you are headed? Are you happy with the decisions you have made? Do you feel closer to God today that a year ago? Do you believe he is in the tower ready to listen?
If you're not as close to God today as you were yesterday, who moved?
The last phrase of verse 13 is vital - "with all your heart."
- "Trust in the Lord with all your heart" (Proverbs 3:5).
- "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength" (Mark 12:30).
- "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life" (Proverbs 4:23).
What do you need to adjust in your daily routine to make sure time for God, and time with God is not getting squeezed out?
In this news story only two planes were circling this small Greek island. What happens in a high school of hundreds when the students who could be leading many of their friends to Jesus, aren't sure if God is listening to them? As they circle the airport the sky fills with other students who have no idea where they are, and with no interest in calling out to God.
On the other hand, if you confidently approach the tower, ask for God's help and land safely every time, I think some friends might try your "approach" to life.
God IS there, and He is not silent!
