12 Sep, 2008

On September 11, 2008, Awakening America Alliance rallied our nation to pause to remember the greatest "wake-up" call in our generation, the terrorist attacks on 9/11/01. As part of Awakening America, a call was made for Christians across the nation to mark this significant day in our history with powerful prayer for America and the lost individuals of this country.

In every one of the 3141 counties in the United States, during the noon lunch hour on September 11, Christians were challenged to unite around their county courthouse to fast during lunch and cry out to God with focused prayer for their community, their lost friends and family, and for the spiritual condition of our nation.

Cry Out America!

Every State, Every County, Every Heart

Joel 1:14

14 Consecrate a fast;
call a solemn assembly.
Gather the elders
and all the inhabitants of the land
to the house of the Lord your God,
and cry out to the Lord. (ESV)

What does today's God's Story scripture teach us?

Why does it so often take tragedies, like 9/11, to drive Christians to their knees to cry out to God? What would it look like if we made this kind of wide-spread prayer a way of life in the Body of Christ – not just throughout the US, but around the world. In this verse from the book of Joel, we are challenged to gather the generations to pray for our nation. Let that challenge from God's Story, along with yesterday’s Cry Out America become a way of everyday life.

How can we connect God's Story scripture to our lives?

  • Set aside a time every day for the next week to Cry Out for America, as well as your friends and family who need a relationship with Jesus.
  • Ask God what He would have you do to pull generations together for prayer.
  • Find out what is going on in your school or community with See You At the Pole later this month.

How can we connect today's story, God's Story, and our story to others?

  • Pull two or three Christian friends together to pray for others sometime today or this weekend.
  • Pray together for each other, your lost friends, your teachers, your school administrators.
  • Challenge other Christians in your school, your church, your community to pray as well.
  • When you hear others talking about the event of 9/11, remind them to Cry Out to God for his presence.

A number of the Daily Bide writers have also written portions of our 3Story® resources. You can check out our resources at the 3Story.org website or connect with our writers at 3story@yfc.net. If you have a question or a story you would like to share, please reference the Daily Bide date in your email.

YFC works with young people on campus and in the community in over one hundred countries around the world so that they might have an opportunity to become a follower of Christ and be a part of a local church.
