Police nab suspect in air conditioner

A burglary suspect tried something very uncool, trying to hide in an air conditioning unit at a Houston shooping center on Monday.

At first, officers who responded to the burglar alarm couldn't find anyone. But, they later noticed the man atop the building and summoned a ladder truck.

Officer John Dickerson said the suspect was nabbed inside an air conditioning unit. Copper wire was stripped from several other industrial AC units at the complex.

Charges are pending.

That's not cool!

Check out the story of how a man's greed gets him caught in an air conditioner.

What does today's God's Story teach us about the danger of craving money?

Tyndale's LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE answers the question this way:

6:6-10 Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, most people still believe that money brings happiness. Rich people craving greater riches can be caught in an endless cycle that only ends in ruin and destruction. How can you keep away from the love of money? Paul gives us some guidelines: (1) Realize that one day riches will all be gone (6:7;17); (2) be content with what you have (6:8); (3) monitor what you are willing to do to get more money (6:9,10); (4) love people more than money (6:11); (5) love God's work more than money (6:11); (6) freely share what you have with others (6:18).

Remember, if you are craving money more than God and His Kingdom, you'll fall into a trap and get caught...and that's not cool!

How can we connect today's God's Story to our lives?
  • Thank your Heavenly Father that He promises to meet your needs. Confess to Him any recent times of craving your "wants" more than what He wants for you. Ask His Spirit to give you God's Kingdom perspective rather than this world's perspective on what is truly valuable now and for eternity.
  • For one month, pray every day for God to teach you His perspective on money rather than what our culture teaches you.
  • Using your journal, checkbook, credit card report (any that apply) look over your spending habits and giving habits over a three-month period to evaluate if you are honoring God or yourself?
  • Whenever you see an air conditioner this week, let God remind you to avoid this world's money trap.

How can we connect today's story, God's Story and our story to others?

  • Use today's DAILYBIDE as a topic for discussion in your youth group or small group.
  • Look for an opportunity in your conversations with friends to talk about what you are learning about the danger of making money your main focus in life. This is part of your story of your life in Christ. Remember to share with humility rather than trying to judge others who may have an obsession for possessions.
