Grand Theft Auto IV: Fans abuzz, critics aghast
The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV video game, an action-packed shoot-'em-up thriller, hit store shelves this morning, prompting a storm of blog chatter and a lots of finger-pointing from critics who call the game violent and crass.
The game's release for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 is expected to be one of the biggest sellers in gaming industry history, topping Halo 3's fall record of $300 million in sales its first week.
By Monday evening, hours before the game was to go on sale, dedicated gamers straggled into stores to pay the remaining balance on the $59.99 Grand Theft Auto IV they had reserved months prior. A number of Best Buy locations also held midnight sales.
"I can't wait," said Stoney Hinson, 30, of Minneapolis, as he milled about GameStop. "I took a vacation day off just for this."
But not everyone is swooning over the game and its franchise, which includes a series of Grand Theft Auto games all chockablock with guns and illicit sex.
The Parents Television Council issued a statement last week blasting the game for its violence and sexual content.
"It's just a crude, crass, disgusting, violent game," said Melissa Henson.
Henson, the council's director of public education, added: "I think that as these games become increasingly more and more realistic, we have more and more cause for concern."
The group sent letters to major retailers asking them not to sell the game -- which is rated M for mature -- or at least to display it away from minors and card anyone who buys it.
An earlier release, Grand Theft Auto, San Andreas, was rated AO for Adults Only in 2005 after a secret sex scene was discovered, prompting some major retailers to pull it from their shelves.
The council cited the perennial concern voiced about violence in games, TV shows and movies: That watching and acting out violence onscreen might encourage violent behavior in children.
Both critics and fans agree that parents are the ultimate gatekeepers and need to educate themselves on the content of their children's video games.

Do video games affect you?
Philippians 4:8-9 (NLT)
8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
What's the connection between today's God's Story scripture and video games?
Even though Paul never imagined computer programs, he understood the principle that whatever you program into something determines the outcome. What we put into our minds determines what we think about, say, and do.
Paul is simply telling us (according to the Holy Spirit directing him) to program our minds with thoughts that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and worthy of praise.
How do Paul's words make you evaluate your current choices of video games and the amount of time you spend playing?
If you're struggling with impure thoughts and attitudes or finding it difficult to manage your time, you will find it helpful to reprogram your mind with the kind of resources that Paul talks about in today's verse. Most important of all - make sure your priority is to spend time in God's Word and prayer.
Nobody can give you an exact list of the video games that are OK, or the amount of time you can spend playing them, but God's Spirit will help you determine what will help you become more "mature" in your spiritual growth. Imagine Jesus sitting down to play a game with you....
You can still be a gamer if you're maturing in Christ and His Truth!
- Take a minute to let God's Spirit lovingly convict you of anything that is dominating your thoughts other than that which pleases Christ. Confess it and thank Jesus for His forgiveness. Ask Him to reprogram your mind on a daily basis. Take another minute to praise Him for His work in your life.
- Write out today's verses and stick them on your computer or in your organizer or one of your school books. This is part of "reprogramming" your thoughts.
- For one month, keep a written log or journal of the amount of time you're spending with video games, TV, movies and God's word or other Christian resources. Take appropriate action and thank God for His help in making you more like Jesus.
How can we connect today's story and God's Story scripture and our story to others who need Jesus?
- The next time you are playing video games with your friends who need Jesus, ask them if they think video games affect our thoughts and actions? Ask them if they ever feel addicted to a game and how it might affect them? Be careful not to judge your friends' response. In your own words, share the truth of today's scripture with your friends by talking to them about the choices you want to make about "addictive" media in your life.
- In your youth group or small group, brainstorm ways to use the video game craze to get others involved who need to know Jesus.

Tourist Tangles With Killer Lion
The big cat pounced on Kate Drew from behind and dragged her to the ground, sinking its teeth into the back of her neck.
As wardens on a Zimbabwe game reserve rushed to help, the 180kg lion kept the 28-year-old tourist firmly in its grip.
But, mercifully, its powerful jaws just missed her brain stem. Seconds later, she was rescued, dripping with blood.
The bite wounds on her head left her needing 13 stitches.
Recalling the attack just over a month ago, Miss Drew, from Essex, said she had assumed she was a "goner'' after the lion pounced on her.
As it held her down, she was even more terrified to glance up and see two more lions coming her way.
She was saved only when the wardens rushed in with sticks and wrestled the animal away.
It is thought the lion intended only to "play'' with her after being attracted by her mane-like long blonde hair.
Miss Drew, who is now helping at an orphanage in Peru, said: "I was a bit apprehensive, but we were just leaving and everything seemed to have gone well - until one jumped at me from behind.

Have you seen the lions?
1 Peter 5:8-11
8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Revelation 5:5
5 And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” (ESV)
What does today's God's Story scripture teach us about looking out for one lion and embracing the other?
Peter is warning believers (anyone who knows Christ as Savior) to watch out for Satan, the enemy of God and His family. Satan is like a lion, who can pull a surprise attack at any time and place. He usually looks friendly, not scary.
If you have been feeling alone, weak or helpless, and not hanging with other believers - look out! Maybe you've been harassed for your faith or you have been going through some other sort of suffering - be on guard! Perhaps you've been so focused on your own desires that you've spent little time focusing on your relationship with Jesus - you're in danger!
But you have protection. He is the ultimate champion to give you victory over sin! He is Christ, the Lion of Judah!
- Thank God for His loving protection. Confess any way in which you have let your guard down to the enemy lion. If you've been a victim and have suffered in some way, ask your Heavenly Father to give you strength while you wait for Him to get you back on track. Praise Him that Jesus Christ will give you victory over Satan!
- Start each day with a prayer for Christ's protection and victory over Satan.
- Start an accountability group at your school or church with 2-3 other friends for the purpose of helping each other win the spiritual battle and live for Christ.
How can you connect today's story, God's Story scripture and your story to others?
Let the following picture depicting THE LION OF JUDAH remind you to pray every day for your brothers and sisters in Christ who, like yourself, are facing attack from the enemy. And ask THE LION OF JUDAH for the love and power you need to introduce others to Him.

Jake Long, Chris Long, Matt Ryan selected 1-2-3 in NFL draft
NEW YORK (AP) — Forget the intrigue at the top of the draft. The NFL invited a half-dozen players to the draft Saturday, and they went in the first six picks. Then things went a bit crazy.
From Michigan tackle Jake Long, who already had signed with the Miami Dolphins, to defensive end/linebacker Vernon Gholston going sixth to the New York Jets, there was an air of predictability to the proceedings. Unlike last year, when Notre Dame's Brady Quinn had to wait hours to be chosen, the players on-hand hit the Radio City Music Hall stage quickly.
"It's a blessing to be here, they only ask six guys to come," Gholston added. "Funny how it worked out, teams made good selections."
After St. Louis took the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Howie Long, Matt Ryan of Boston College, who could solve the quarterback problems in Atlanta, went to the Falcons.
Everything moved at a good pace after the NFL cut the first round from 15 minutes per pick to 10. The first round took 3 hours, 30 minutes, a significant improvement over the five-hour marathons of previous years.
The Dolphins used only a few seconds to hand in their card. The Rams and Falcons didn't take much longer, but the Raiders used almost their entire time, as did Kansas City.
Not that Jake Long had any worries. He signed a five-year contract with the Dolphins this week worth $57.75 million, $30 million of it guaranteed.

Chosen by God!
Ephesians 1:3-4 (NLT)
Spiritual Blessings in Christ
3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. 4 Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.
What does today's God's Story scripture teach us about being chosen by God?
Tyndale's LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE notes explain it this way:
1:4 Paul says that God "chose us" to emphasize that salvation depends totally on God. We are not saved because we deserve it but because God is gracious and freely gives salvation... there is no way to take credit for our salvation or to allow room for pride. The mystery of salvation originated in the timeless mind of God long before we existed. It is hard to understand how God could accept us. But because of Christ, we are holy and blameless in his sight. God chose us, and when we belong to him through Jesus Christ, God looks at us as if we had never sinned. All we can do is express our thanks for his wonderful love.
I can't relate to these college football stars who spent last weekend waiting to see if they would be chosen in the NFL draft and by which team? When I was a kid, I was happy if I wasn't the last one picked to be on a team when we would choose up sides during recess or a backyard game.
Paul is teaching us that God did not choose us for our goodness or abilities. We've been "picked" to know Christ, because of God's amazing grace.
Some football players will experience the glory and riches that go along with making it in the NFL.
None of us would make it to Heaven on our own, but because we were chosen in Christ, we will experience the glory and riches that go along with being God's children.
How can we connect today's God's Story scripture to our lives?
- Take a couple of minutes to reflect on the fact that God's love for you is so great, that He chose you to know Him through Christ. Think about His unconditional love for you. Be amazed by His grace. Look forward to seeing Him face to face some day. Now just listen to His voice. Worship Him....
- Read today's passage every day this weekend and meditate on God's amazing love for you.
- Write down a list of ways you have already experienced the "blessings" of being chosen to be on God's team. Review this whenever you are feeling sort of left out in the world around you.
How can we connect today's story, God's Story and our story to others?
- Do you know another follower of Jesus who is feeling sort of left out? Share today's DAILYBIDE with him or her and offer your encouragement and prayer.
- Identify a friend at school or where you work or a family member who needs Jesus. If her or she is interested in God's Story, use today's story about the NFL Draft as a conversation starter about being chosen for riches and glory as a child of God.
- Use this DAILYBIDE as a study in your youth group or small group.

TobyMac, Mark Hall, Casting Crowns win big at Dove Awards
NASHVILLE, TN: TobyMac won artist of the year and Casting Crowns singer Mark Hall collected four trophies at Wednesday's 39th annual Dove Awards, which celebrate the best in gospel music.
"Are you kidding? This is crazy, man. I thought I was Mr. Pre-Televised awards," joked TobyMac, whose real name is Toby McKeehan. "God has been faithful time and again to surround me with people that sharpen me and that make me better."
TobyMac also won artist of the year in 1996 as a member of dc Talk. His latest album, "Portable Sounds," debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart.
Besides artist of the year, he took home Dove Awards for rock/contemporary album for "Portable Sounds" and short-form video for his hit "Boomin."
Hall, who was the night's leading nominee with six, won song of the year and pop/contemporary recorded song of the year for "East to West," which he co-wrote with Bernie Herms.
His participation on the multi-artist worship project "Glory Revealed" brought Hall individual honors for special event album of the year for the CD, as well as inspirational recorded song of the year for "By His Wounds."
His band also had four nominations and won three: group of the year, best pop/contemporary album of the year for "The Altar and the Door" and pop/contemporary recorded song of the year for "East to West."
"I'm so thankful just to get to be part of the songs," Hall said.

GMA Awards!
Did your favorite artist or song win a Dove?
Psalm 30:11-12 (NLT)
11 You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing.
You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy,
12 that I might sing praises to you and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever!
How does today's God's Story scripture teach us that God's music lasts forever?
David, the psalmist, might have given Toby Mac and Casting Crowns some tough competition for artist and song of the year!
David was very messed up at times. Trapped in his own sin and struggles with depression, David often wanted to die. He wrote songs that live on because God's Holy Spirit wrote God's music through David which are recorded forever in God's Word.
In today's scripture, David is praising God for the ultimate hope we have because of God's unconditional love, forgiveness and plan for our lives. He is making a commitment to prolong his praise to God forever.
Here's something really cool to think about - as followers of Christ, we can experience the same hope and deliverance now that David wrote about. Then some day, we will stand next to David in Heaven and sing our worship to God forever!
These songs will last forever. No need for iPods. Just us praising Jesus!
How can we connect today's God's Story scripture to our lives?
- Praise God right now in a prayer of gratitude for the ways He has "turned your mourning into dancing and clothed you with joy."
- In your journal, write a praise every day to God for His faithfulness to you. If you don't keep a journal, write God a note (or a song) that expresses your own "psalm" to Him.
- For one week (don't wait for the weekly church service), spend 30 minutes a day (the same as a TV sitcom) in personal worship of God by singing, dancing, and praising while you listen to some of your favorite worship songs. Get ready for God to change you!
How can we connect today's story and God's Story scripture and our story to others?
Remember the quote from Mark Hall of Casting Crowns, "I'm so thankful just to get to be part of the songs."
You can be part of what God does with music...get together some evening with a bunch of friends just to listen to some of every one's favorite tunes. It should be pretty easy to find some moments when you can use what you learned in today's DAILYBIDE. You can learn more of their story by asking them about their music. It will probably give you the opportunity to share more of your story and maybe even some of God's musical story.

Madonna is wealthy beyond belief and an adopted child is an heir.
The London Sun claims Madonna is nearing a deal that would net her an estimated $25 million to perform two shows in money-lined Dubai after her world tour winds down at the end of the year.
"Madonna is about to break another record by playing the most lucrative concert of her whole career -- or any one's career for that matter," a snitch maintains to the tab. "The negotiations for the tour to stop in Dubai in November are being finalized and she will get $15 million for the one show only."
The additional $10 million would come from playing a private party thrown by a filthy-rich fan, adds the mole.
Meanwhile, in other Madonna news, the hearing to finalize her adoption of 2-year-old David Banda has been pushed back until May 15, says Reuters.
The megastar reportedly requested the postponement from Malawi's High Court because of "business" commitments in the United States, presumably involving the promotion of her critically lauded new album, "Hard Candy," and the debut of her documentary on the African nation, "I Am Because We Are," which is set to premiere this week at the Tribeca Film Festival.
A few weeks ago, the government of Malawi recommended that the initially controversial adoption be given the go-ahead.
Speaking of Madonna's documentary, it contains footage of David before Madonna whisked him off to the lap of luxury, and she recalls their fateful first meeting during an interview with New York magazine.
"He was basically going to the bathroom on himself," she says. "Of course, next day you come back with a truckload of Pampers. It sounds corny, but he just has these big, bright, intelligent, so-aware eyes, and I felt a connection to him."

It's good to be adopted!
Ephesians 1:3-8 (NLT)
Spiritual Blessings in Christ
3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. 4 Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. 6 So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. 7 He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. 8 He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.
In today's God's Story scripture, why do you think Paul uses the term "adopt" to explain what happens when someone becomes a follower of Jesus?
Let's look at Tyndale's LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE notes:
1:5 God's "unchanging plan" is another way of saying that salvation is God's work and not our own doing. In his infinite love, God has adopted us as his own children. Through Jesus' sacrifice, he has brought us into his family and made us heirs along with Jesus (Romans 8:17). In Roman law, adopted children had the same rights and privileges as biological children, even if they had been slaves. Paul uses this term to show how strong our relationship to God is. Have you entered into this loving relationship with God? For more on the meaning of adoption, see Galatians 4:5-7.
Isn't the news about Madonna adopting this child interesting? Children are adopted every day, but Madonna, who is not a Christian, and who has struggled in relationships, puts adoption in the headlines. This is the reality of being famous. Her adopted child will be well taken care of and by God's grace will somehow come to recognize his need to be adopted into another family some day - God's family.
Have you been adopted into God's family? Jesus Christ, the "famous one" died and rose again to pay the penalty for your sins. Receiving His gift of forgiveness gives you all the privileges of being God's child. Wow!
This spiritual adoption won't put you in the headlines, but you will become part of the greatest family both now and forever!
How can you connect today's God's Story to your story?
If you have never been "adopted" into God's family, tell God right now that you want Christ to be your Savior. He will forgive you of all your sins, come into your life and promises you eternal life! (If this is you, email us at 3Story.org so we can encourage you and help you in your new relationship with God).
If you have been "adopted" into God's family, praise your Heavenly Father for the privilege of being His child! Confess any way in which you have not been acting like you belong to His family. Thank Him for His complete forgiveness (this is one of the privileges of being His child) and ask His Spirit to empower you to live up to His family name every day.
How can you connect today's story, God's Story scripture and your story to others?
- Share part of your story by talking to your friends about Madonna's paycheck and her adopting this child. You can simply say, "Did I ever tell you that I'm adopted?"
- Pray for Madonna and her family to come to know Christ as Savior and be adopted into God's family.
- On your own, or with your youth group, look into "adopting" a needy child through an organization like Compassion International. You can financially support and pray for a child and make a difference in a life forever. Go to: http://www.compassion.com/sponsor_a_child/default.htm

Oregon cop battles python to save pet store owner
EUGENE, Ore. -- A Eugene pet store owner is calling a police sergeant a hero for saving her from the coils of a 12-foot Burmese python doing its best to turn her into a meal.
Teresa Rossiter had reached into a cage to show the huge snake to a customer when it bit her right hand and coiled around her left arm to throw her to the floor.
A friend who happened to be at the store kept the snake off her neck and body while police were called. And when Sgt. Ryan Nelson rushed into the store, he was ready to kill the snake with his knife.
But Rossiter asked him to spare the expensive python, so Nelson put on gloves and pried open the snake's mouth to free Rossiter's hand.
The sergeant and Rossiter suffered minor snake bites, but everybody -- including the python -- are fine.

Would you believe a snake?
2 Corinthians 11:3-4 (NLT)
3 But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent. 4 You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different kind of Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one you believed.
Who were the "snakes" that Paul was writing about in today's God's Story scripture?
Paul was writing this letter to the early church in Corinth. He was warning them to look out for false teachers. Just like Eve was deceived by the serpent (Satan), believers were being led away from the true Christ by "religious" people who were preaching ideas that were not based on the Truth of God's Word as revealed through the power of God's Holy Spirit.
Satan is the master of deception. Not much has changed in the last 2000 years. Today, smooth-talking, smart-sounding, spiritual-like teachers and preachers are putting out messages that people like to hear, but they are based on feel-good, politically-correct philosophy rather than the inspired, Holy Word of God.
Part of God's Story is that He gave us His Word and His Son Jesus. And that's the Truth!
Remember that if you hang around "snakes", you will get caught...
How can we connect today's God's Story scripture to our lives?
- Be careful where you look for spiritual input. There are lots of celebs, events and even churches that are "big" in the news. They can sound pretty good at first, but they are just another form of "spirituality". Religious? Yes. Truth? No, because they are not based on Jesus Christ and the authority of God's Holy Word.
- Study God's Word every day.
- Talk to God about it through prayer. Thank God for His inspired, authoritative, Holy Word. Ask His Holy Spirit to help you learn the Truth and apply it every day in your life. Ask His Spirit to help you recognize what is true and what is false. Ask His Spirit to help you keep your daily focus on the Christ of Scripture rather than on cultural ideas of who Jesus is and who He isn't.
How can we connect today's story, God's Story scripture and our story to others?
- Ask Jesus to give you a heart of compassion and listening ears as you interact with others. Ask them about their spiritual interests. If they seem open to talking about this topic, you could ask them if they think it's possible to really know what is true spiritually? Listen carefully. Be careful not to jump on them with your perspective, but trust Jesus to nudge you if you should share more about your story and God's Story.
- If you have a relationship with someone who is really interested in the Bible, you could show them today's story about the snake and Paul's writing. The bottom line is - stay close to Jesus and He will show you how to connect to their stories.
- Whenever there's a large python that comes creeping into your room, pray for your friends who need to know Jesus. OK, so this won't happen very often, but you could still pray regularly for God to protect your friends and family from that creepy master of deception.

Expert testifies polygamous sect belief system is abusive
SAN ANGELO, Texas - The belief system at a polygamous sect is abusive and teen girls do not resist early marriages because they are trained to be obedient and compliant, an expert testified Friday in a custody hearing for 416 children seized from a secluded ranch.
Many of the women had children when they were minors, some as young as 13, a child welfare worker said earlier in the child custody hearing, one of the largest and most convoluted in U.S. history.
State District Judge Barbara Walther must decide whether the children will remain in state custody. Child welfare officials claim the children were abused or in imminent danger of abuse because the sect encourages girls younger than 18 to marry and have children.
An expert in children in cults testified Friday that while the teen girls believed they were marrying out of free choice, it's a choice based on lessons they've had from birth.
"Obedience is a very important element of their belief system," said psychiatrist Bruce Perry, who interviewed three girls seized in the April 3 raid. "Compliance is being godly, it's part of their honoring God."
Child welfare investigator Angie Voss testified Thursday that at least five girls who are younger than 18 are pregnant or have children. Voss said some of the women identified as adults with children may be juveniles, or may have had children when they were younger than 18.
Identifying children and parents has been difficult because members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have given different names and ages at various times, Voss said. The state has asked that DNA be taken from all of the children and their alleged parents to help determine biological connections. The judge has not ruled on that request.

Confused and helpless
Matthew 9:35-38 (NLT)
The Need For Workers
35 Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 He said to his disciples,
What does today's God's Story teach us about Christ's compassion for those who are confused and helpless?
Everyone has a story. Sadly, the children who are part of the polygamous sect in Texas have a story that is filled with emotional, physical and sexual abuse done to them by adults that claim to know God. They fit Matthew's description of people who are like "sheep without a shepherd".
Jesus feels great compassion for people who have problems so great that they don't know how to get help, or they are so confused that they may not recognize their need for help. In many situations, they don't respond to help that is available. He wants to bring healing and hope to their lives through His love, forgiveness and power.
The amazing thing is that He wants to use us. Jesus said we should pray for people to respond to His need for workers. Quite often, when we pray for something, God uses us to answer our own prayers! He wants us to see the need and trust Him to empower us to meet the needs of others.
Many people are ready for the turning point in their stories. They may give their lives to Christ if someone helps them connect their stories to God's Story.
Are you willing to be that person?
How can we connect today's God's Story scripture to our story?
- Thank God that He sent Jesus to rewrite your life story. Praise Him for the fact that you know your story will have a happy ending - living with God in Heaven forever! Ask His Spirit to empower you with Christ's compassion for those who are hurting and feel helpless. Pray that people will respond to the need for being God's workers.
- Ask Jesus to give you a willing, humble heart to be one of those workers. Pray for Jesus to show you someone in your circle of influence who is "like a sheep without the Shepherd". Trust Jesus to show you practical ways to connect with this person. It might be through acts of kindness, an encouraging word or note, an invitation to a "safe" place or experience....
How can we connect today's story, God's Story scripture and our story to others?
- The recent story of the polygamous sect in Texas is overwhelming when you think about 416 children involved. No doubt they feel afraid and many probably want to be with their parents (even if they are not sure of the identity of their parents). Think about the challenge of these children learning about what is right and wrong and true about God in the middle of this legal battle and emotional situation. Get your youth group, small group, or some other friends together to pray. Pray for the court system to have wisdom, for the opportunity for these children to come in contact with Christ followers and for Biblical Truth to be communicated to our whole culture through this incredible story.
As you continue to see news reports of these children who have been harassed and helpless, let Jesus remind you that you know the Shepherd and your story can help other "sheep" be rescued. Encourage others who are in "the sheep fold" to do the same.

Pope Benedict XVI Visits America

Pope Benedict XVI greets worshippers as he arrives to lead a Mass at the Nationals Park stadium in Washington, April 17, 2008.

A visit from the Pope
Hebrews 4:14-16 (NLT)
Jesus Christ is our High Priest
14 So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. 15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
According to today's God's Story scripture, why is Jesus greater than any priesthood?
Jesus Christ is the Son of God and lived on earth as a man and therefore is the ultimate High Priest. To the Jews of the Old Testament, the high priest was the highest religious authority because he was the only one who could enter the Holy of Holies in the Temple once a year to arrange for the forgiveness of their sins. Because He died and rose again to pay for our sins, Jesus Christ intercedes for us before God.
Isn't it encouraging to know that Jesus faced all the temptations we'll ever face and He never sinned? This means He understands us and all of our weaknesses. As God's representative, He guarantees our forgiveness!
Because Jesus is God and is always at God's right hand, interceding for His followers, we do not need an earthly priest to approach God and receive His forgiveness.
Prayer is our direct approach to God, and we can come "boldly" to Him through Jesus Christ. God always hears us when we pray.
When you know Christ as your Savior, you can always have a personal visit with the highest spiritual authority!
- Thank God for the privilege of being able to come to Him directly because Jesus is your Savior. Right now, confess any sin in your life that God's Spirit brings to your attention. Thank God for forgiving you because of what Jesus did for you on the cross. Ask Jesus to help you turn from that sin and walk with Him alone. Thank Him for being your Savior, Lord, "High Priest", and Friend.
- Every day, go directly to God through His Son Jesus in prayer.

Parents of Virginia Tech Gunman Secluded
(Home of Virginia Tech gunman's parents)
Like so many thousands of Virginia Tech parents, Sung Tae and Hyang Im Cho spent the day of April 16, 2007, calling their son's cellphone and sending him e-mails, hoping he hadn't fallen prey to the man who was shooting students and professors at Virginia Tech.
The Chos' fears were confirmed when police officers, FBI agents and a chaplain showed up that night at their Centreville townhouse.
But the news was worse than they had imagined.
Their shy, quiet 23-year-old son was the student gunman who fatally shot 32 people before killing himself.
Nearly a year later, Seung Hui Cho's parents have virtually cut themselves off from the world. Relatives from South Korea have not heard from them. The blinds are always drawn at their home, and several windows are papered over.
The Chos, through an FBI agent who communicates with them regularly, declined a request for an interview.
"They continue to live in darkness," said Wade Smith, a North Carolina lawyer who has been assisting the family. "I think there will come a time when they are able to speak, [but] for now, they have made it clear to me they just want to be quiet and not say anything."
The family went into hiding the night of the shootings, according to the FBI agent, who has been a liaison between the family and law enforcement in the past year.
Relatives in South Korea, who used to hear from Seung Hui Cho's mother on major holidays, say they have not heard from her since the massacre, the deadliest shooting by an individual in U.S. history.
"I understand why she never called us, even once, since the incident," said Kim Yang Soon, Cho's great-aunt, who lives on the outskirts of Seoul. "It must be too shameful and painful for her to say anything now."

Need some light?
A year after massacre, family lives 'in darkness'.
Psalm 43:3-4 (NLT)
3 Send out your light and your truth;
let them guide me.
Let them lead me to your holy mountain,
to the place where you live.
4 There I will go to the altar of God,
to God—the source of all my joy.
I will praise you with my harp,
O God, my God!
Tyndale's LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE notes explain:
43:3,4 The psalm writer asked God to send His light and truth to guide him to the holy mountain, the Temple, where he would meet God. God's truth (see 1 John 2:27) provides the right path to follow, and God's light (see 1 John 1:5) provides the clear vision to follow it. If you feel surrounded by darkness and uncertainty, follow God's light and truth. He will guide you.
So how do we know God's truth and experience His light? It all comes back to abiding in Christ. Beginning with the constant understanding of our complete dependence on Jesus Christ, we will receive from God's Spirit the desire to know God and become intimate with Him through worship, His Word, prayer, obedience, service...
Seung Hui Cho, the Virginia Tech killer, obviously did not know Christ and his angry heart and murderous actions left a dark cloud in many lives and throughout our culture.
His parents "continue to live in darkness". God's amazing love is the key to them experiencing the light of His grace some day.
How about you? Do you feel surrounded by darkness? Trust God to give you the faith to take one small step into His light.
How can we connect today's God's Story scripture to our story?
- Spend a few minutes in silence with our loving God....cry out to Him if you need...wait and listen...
- Write down three examples of when you have felt "surrounded by darkness". What happened? Did you experience God's light breaking into your life? Why or why not? What did you learn? Take these written thoughts and place them in your Bible in Psalm 43 as a reminder where to look the next time you recognize your need for God's light.
- Read 1 John 1-2 to learn more of God's light and truth.
How can we connect today's story and God's Story scripture and our story to others?
- Pray for Seung Hui Cho's parents to experience God's love through His light, His truth, and His followers. Pray that everyone closely connected to the Virginia Tech tragedy will experience Christ's light.
- Use the story about Cho's parents living in seclusion to talk to a friend or family member who seems to be living under a cloud of darkness. Remember to ask questions and listen...let them know that you are comfortable with their silence...let them know that you will be there for them even if they feel like they will never be able to talk about their "darkness"...this may be the beginning of them seeing a little bit of Christ's light.

Vigils, Silence Mark 1-Year Anniversary Of Va. Tech Shootings
BLACKSBURG, Va. - Classes were not held in Blacksburg on Wednesday and special events marked the one-year anniversary of the shootings on the campus of Virginia Tech. Thirty-three people died, including the student gunman Seung-Hui Cho, in a shooting rampage on April 16, 2007. The names of the 32 faculty and students killed by Cho are carved in a stone memorial on the drill field. There were two large memorials at the location Wednesday.
At 10:30 a.m., the names of each of the victims was read aloud. At 8:15 p.m., thousands attended a candlelight vigil.
Some of those killed one year ago...
Ross Abdallah, Alameddine Christopher, James Bishop, Ryan Clark, Jocelyne Couture-Nowak, Daniel Perez Cueva, Kevin Granata Caitlin Hammaren, Jeremy Herbstritt, Emily Jane Hilscher, Jarrett L. They are remembered...
Daniel 12:1-2 (NLT)
The Time of the End
“At that time Michael, the archangel who stands guard over your nation, will arise. Then there will be a time of anguish greater than any since nations first came into existence. But at that time every one of your people whose name is written in the book will be rescued.
What does today's God's Story scripture teach us about the reality of eternity for everyone?
First of all, look at the insight from the study notes found in Tyndale's LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE:
12:1 Great suffering is in store for God's people throughout the years ahead. This way of describing the future is also used by Jeremiah (Jeremiah 30:7) and Jesus (Matthew 24:21ff). Yet the great suffering is tempered by a great promise of hope for true believers. 12:2 This is a clear reference to the resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked, although the eternal destiny of each will be quite different...This reference to a bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost was a sharp departure from the common belief of the Israelites at that time.
These prophetic words remind us that everyone has an eternal soul. Anyone who receives God's gift of salvation (forgiveness for our sins) through the sacrificial death and resurrection of His Son Jesus will have their name written in God's "book of life". Those who do not become followers of Christ will not be rescued from eternal separation from God in hell.
Yeah....sobering...and cause for joy for followers of Christ!
At this moment, the loving, living God knows whose name is written in His book of eternal life in Heaven.
God created and loved everyone who died at the Virginia Tech campus one year ago... His heart breaks for the lost.... His arms welcomed His children to Heaven... He continues to comfort the grieving... He continues to use this tragedy to draw people to Jesus...
How can we connect today's God's Story scripture to our story?
- If your name is written in God's "book of eternal life", take a moment right now to thank God and imagine what it will be like to live forever in Heaven with Jesus and all of God's family.
- If you are not a follower of Jesus, you can become one right now. Let God know that you realize your sin keeps you from Him. Thank Him that Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for your sins and that He rose from the dead to prove that He alone is the Savior! Ask Jesus to be your Savior. Tell Him that you want to follow Him every day and live to please Him. (If this is you, email us at 3Story.org so that we can help you in your new relationship with God.)
- Read Matthew 24 and Revelation 21 to learn more about the future of everyone - those whose names are written in the "Lamb's Book of Life" and those whose names are not.
How can we connect today's story, God's Story scripture and our story to others?
- Continue to pray that the families and friends of those connected to the Virginia Tech tragedy will experience God's comfort and the hope that is found only in Jesus Christ.
- Ask Jesus to give you great wisdom and sensitivity in talking to your friends and family who need Jesus. It may be very difficult for them to hear a "sermon" about the eternal reality of every soul while thinking about stories like the Virginia Tech murders. This is the time to focus on God's compassion, grace and answers found in Christ. Learn their stories and share your story.

Big quake likely in California...60 die as car bombs rip through Iraq
NOTE: These two stories were both headlines on the same day at news.yahoo.com:
LOS ANGELES - California faces an almost certain risk of being rocked by a strong earthquake by 2037, scientists said Monday in the first statewide temblor forecast.
New calculations reveal there is a 99.7 percent chance a magnitude 6.7 quake or larger will strike in the next 30 years. The odds of such an event are higher in Southern California than Northern California, 97 percent versus 93 percent.
"It basically guarantees it's going to happen," said Ned Field, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Pasadena and lead author of the report.
The 1994 earthquake in the San Fernando Valley was magnitude 6.7. It killed 72 people, injured more than 9,000 and caused $25 billion in damage in the metropolitan area.
BAGHDAD - Car bombs ripped through crowded areas in Baghdad and former insurgent strongholds to the north and west of the capital on Tuesday, killing nearly 60 people and breaking a recent lull in violence in the predominantly Sunni areas.

Signs of the end?
Mark 13:3-8 (NLT)
Signs of the Close of the Age
3 Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives across the valley from the Temple. Peter, James, John, and Andrew came to him privately and asked him, 4 “Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will show us that these things are about to be fulfilled?”
5 Jesus replied,
In today's God's Story scripture, is there a connection between Jesus' words and what's happening in the world today?
Of course there is! When Jesus gave these words to his disciples on the Mount of Olives, he was not talking specifically about the current war in Iraq or the rumors of one with Iran. Jesus was not commenting on the prediction of the next big earthquake in California. BUT...there is a connection.
Every day that goes by brings us one day closer to Christ's return. Wars and rumors of wars and earthquakes are all part of what's coming - the end of the world as we know it today.
But don't freak out! Actually, Jesus used the idea of "panic", but it means the same thing. If you are a follower of Jesus, meaning that you have received his gift of salvation and you strive to live for him every day, you can have peace in a very troubled world. That's a promise from Jesus!
Also, don't get sucked into believing anyone who claims they know exactly when the world will end and Jesus will come back. Many false teachers have already misled people by claiming to have revelations from God and have given out many dates - none of which were true, because Christ's followers are still here!
How can you apply God's Story scripture to your story?
- Thank Jesus every day for being in control even when the world seems more out of control.
- Memorize verse 7 as a reminder of why you don't have to freak out with all the crisis in the world.
- Keep up with what's happening in the world. Look at current events in light of God's Word.
- Don't listen to 'religious' leaders and others who claim to know the exact time of the end of the world.
- Talk to God right now... Heavenly Father, thank you that you sent your Son Jesus to give me life, both now and forever. Thank you that you already know the exact perfect time of when Jesus is coming back to get His followers. Jesus, thank you for your promise to never leave me and to give me peace because you have already overcome the world. Jesus, use your power to bring a peaceful solution to the turmoil around our world. Give world leaders the insight and courage they need. Give me the courage I need to represent you in a troubled world. In Jesus' name....amen.
How can you connect all of this to your friends and family who need Jesus?
- Keep praying for them by name every day. God often uses change and difficult circumstances to help people recognize their need for Jesus.
- Someone you know may have fears about the future and the end of the world. You could use the war in Iraq or the prediction of the big earthquake in California to start up a conversation about world events and future events. Don't worry about knowing all about every crisis or all about the Biblical explanation of the end times. Just give others the opportunity to express themselves. Remember to listen to their hearts. Remember to listen to Jesus guiding your thoughts and words. Simply talk about the peace and confidence you have in knowing that God is in control. This is part of telling your story!

Hundreds of students counter-protest church picketers
MENOMONIE, Wis. — Hundreds of people at the University of Wisconsin-Stout staged a counter-protest against members of a Kansas church who demonstrated on campus after three students were killed in a house fire.
Several people from Westboro Baptist Church picketed at the Menomonie campus, stating the three students "died for Wisconsin and Minnesota's sins."
April C. Englund, 21, of West St. Paul, Amanda Jean Rief, 20, of Chaska, and Scott A. Hams, 23, of Hayward, Wis. died early Saturday in a fire in an off-campus duplex. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no foul play is suspected.
Church members held signs saying "God's Wrath is Revealed" and "America is Doomed." Westboro Baptist members have delivered similar messages while protesting outside funerals for soldiers killed in Iraq, and on its Web sites www.godhatesfags.com, www.godhatesamerica.com and www.americaisdoomed.com.
Nearly 1,000 students demonstrated against the church members Thursday outside the Memorial Student Center.
Students carried signs saying "God Hates No One," and "Hate is Sin in God's Eyes."
Campus and local police were present at the demonstration.

Do you think before you speak?
Proverbs 15:28 (NLT)
28 The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking;
the mouth of the wicked overflows with evil words.
What does today's God's Story scripture teach us about our talk?
There must be some truth to the idea of thinking before speaking!
Today's story about the hate-filled "christians" from the church in Kansas is a great example of why anyone who claims to be a follower of Christ must think before they speak. These people are revealing hearts of wickedness rather than Christ's love and grace. Either they have no idea how their actions and words hurt the cause of Christ, or they don't care, or both.
When I blow it, I might upset my wife. When you talk before giving it much thought, you offend others or you might get in trouble with someone at school or at your job. All of us as followers of Christ have said things that we should not have said. Thankfully, we don't have the national media replaying our mistakes or the cruel intentions of our hearts.
But any time we don't think before we speak, we can say words that damage the cause of Christ. When we mouth off, we turn off the secular world to the love and life-changing message of Jesus Christ.
This is another example of why we must constantly abide in Jesus. Our thoughts will be more Christ-like. Then if we happen to speak before we think, our words may still have the right effect.
It's pretty plain to understand even though it's often hard to do. If we are being Godly, we will think before we talk. If we don't care about the effects of our words, it shows that we are not Godly.
How can we connect today's God's Story scripture to our story?
- Ask God to help you remember your most recent times of speaking words that hurt someone and the cause of Christ. Confess those times to the loving Heavenly Father and thank Him for His forgiveness through Christ. Listen to His words of forgiving grace, unconditional love and His promise to help you learn and grow.
- Memorize today's verse and or post it on your computer or in your school organizer or at your work place.
How can we connect today's story, God's Story scripture and our story to others?
- Go to anyone you have hurt with words that didn't sound like Jesus and ask for forgiveness. This is not only the right thing to do, but it will give you another opportunity to communicate your story and God's Story.
- Whether it's at home with family, on your way to school, or work, remember that it may be great to have something to say, but it's just as important to think about it first. Plan your words, before you pour out your thoughts without considering the impact on others.

TAXES ARE DUE TOMORROW!

Would Jesus pay taxes?
Mark 12:13-17 (NLT)
Paying Taxes to Caesar
13 Later the leaders sent some Pharisees and supporters of Herod to trap Jesus into saying something for which he could be arrested. 14 “Teacher,” they said, “we know how honest you are. You are impartial and don’t play favorites. You teach the way of God truthfully. Now tell us—is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? 15 Should we pay them, or shouldn’t we?”
Jesus saw through their hypocrisy and said,
“Caesar’s,” they replied.
17
His reply completely amazed them.
What does Jesus teach us about paying taxes in today's God's Story scripture?
Tyndale's LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE notes explain:
12:17 Jesus avoided the trick question by showing that believers have dual citizenship (1 Peter 2:17). Our citizenship in the nation requires that we pay money for the services and benefits that we receive. Our citizenship in the kingdom of Heaven requires that we pledge to God our primary obedience and commitment. As God's followers, we have legitimate obligations to both God and the government. But it is important to keep our priorities straight. When the two authorities conflict, our duty to God always must come before our duty to the government. The coin bearing the emperor's image should be given to the emperor; our lives, bearing God's image, belong to God. Are you giving to God what is rightfully His?
Though most of you young readers don't have to pay much if any taxes, the instructions from Jesus are clear. Whether it's the act of giving money to the government or simply having the attitude of being a Godly citizen, we must pay up!
How can we connect today's God's Story scripture to our story?
- Pay your taxes and maybe you can enjoy your refund!
- Ask God to give you an attitude of appreciation toward our government for the benefits of freedom we enjoy. Ask God to intervene in our government to show our leaders the need to change policies that are immoral and ungodly such as abortion...ask God to show you how to find the best way to voice His Truth and if needed to give you the courage to obey Him rather than our earthly government.
- Read more on this subject in Romans 13:1-7.
How can we connect today's story and God's Story scripture and our story to others?
When the issue of taxes comes up in conversation today and tomorrow, be ready to talk about what you learned about Jesus and taxes in studying God's Story.

Police Close Roads Until Animals Corralled
Note: This story happened several years ago, but it's worth repeating...
PIKESVILLE, Md. - A herd of buffalo somehow got loose and wandered around an upscale neighborhood, disrupting traffic and alarming homeowners before officers managed to corral them in a tennis court.
More than a dozen police cars and a police helicopter were used to herd the roughly 10 beasts, authorities said.
The officers used lounge chairs beside the tennis court as shields and formed a human chain to corral the wayward buffalo. One buffalo was seen leaping over one of the tennis nets in an effort to evade capture.
The animals came from a farm in Stevenson, nearly three miles away, Vinson said. They were returned to the farm later in the day.
Police shut down several major traffic arteries, including a section of the Baltimore Beltway, while they tried to anticipate which way the buffalo would roam.

"Better Is One Day In Your Courts"
Psalm 84:10 (NIV)
10 Better is one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
Psalm 100 (NIV)
His Steadfast Love Endures Forever
A Psalm for giving thanks.
1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his ;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.
What does today's God's Story scripture teach us about worship?
As soon as I saw the news story about the buffalo on the tennis courts, I wondered if perhaps these were Christian bison? Maybe these buffalo understood a truth that we as believers often seem to forget - "better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere!" (Psalm 84:10)
Remember the line from that old camp fire song, "Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam"?
When we ignore Christ's Lordship in our lives and limit our worship to a Sunday morning service, our song during the week is "Oh I feel at home where the worldly roam".
Today's psalm reminds us that God is the only One worthy of our worship! We are His "people, the sheep (not the buffalo) of His pasture." The Lord Jesus is The Shepherd Who can be depended on to lead us and provide for us!
Do you and I "go into His courts with praise" or do we just sort of roam during the week and then find ourselves feeling out of place when we attempt to worship God in His "courts" on Sunday mornings?
When we submit to Christ as Lord, we'll remember His "love and faithfulness". We'll find ourselves feeling right at home, as we enter His "courts" with praise every day!
- Go back to today's scripture and read it aloud as a prayer to God. Then spend a couple of minutes in silent meditation in His "courts". Listen....
- Make a commitment to "enter His courts" with praise every day. The Father wants to hear your requests, but let His Spirit teach you how to worship Him with joy and thanksgiving many times a day.
- Write down in journal what you learn through this spiritual discipline during the next couple of weeks.
How can we connect today's story and God's Story scripture and our story to others?
Go play tennis with a friend. After you tell him or her the buffalo story, stand on one of the courts and tell your friend what you learned in today's DAILYBIDE.

534 women, children leave polygamist ranch
ELDORADO, Texas - Officials on Monday announced that 534 women and children — more than twice as many as had been earlier reported — were removed from a polygamist compound and that all 401 children have been placed in state custody because a judge deemed them in imminent danger of physical abuse.
State police earlier made an arrest as they searched the sprawling rural compound built by polygamist leader Warren Jeffs during an investigation into a possible underage marriage.
The days long raid on the sprawling compound built by the now-jailed Jeffs was sparked by a 16-year-old girl's call to authorities that she was being abused and that girls as young as 14 and 15 were being forced into marriages with much older men.
Dressed in home-sewn, ankle-length dresses with their hair pinned up in braids, some 133 women left the Yearning for Zion Ranch of their own volition along with the children.
The members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints spent their days raising numerous children, tilling small gardens and doing chores. But at least one former resident says life was not some idyllic replica of 19th-century life.
"Once you go into the compound, you don't ever leave it," said Carolyn Jessop, one of the wives of the alleged leader of the Eldorado complex. Jessop left with her eight children before the sect moved to Texas.
Jessop said the community emphasized self-sufficiency because they believed the apocalypse was near.
The women were not allowed to wear red — the color Jeffs said belonged to Jesus — and were not allowed to cut their hair. They were also kept isolated from the outside world.
They "were born into this," said Jessop, 40. "They have no concept of mainstream society, and their mothers were born into and have no concept of mainstream culture. Their grandmothers were born into it."
The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, headed by Jeffs after his father's death in 2002, broke away from the Mormon church after the latter disavowed polygamy more than a century ago.

Caught in a cult
Jude 1:8-10 (NLT)
8 In the same way, these people—who claim authority from their dreams—live immoral lives, defy authority, and scoff at supernatural beings. 9 But even Michael, one of the mightiest of the angels, did not dare accuse the devil of blasphemy, but simply said, “The Lord rebuke you!” (This took place when Michael was arguing with the devil about Moses’ body.) 10 But these people scoff at things they do not understand. Like unthinking animals, they do whatever their instincts tell them, and so they bring about their own destruction.
How does today's God's Story scripture warn us about religious false teachers?
Jude, the brother of Jesus and James is the writer of today's scripture. He's warning believers about false teachers.
False teachers were religious, but not followers of Jesus Christ alone. They came up with their own "way" to Heaven, rather than God's way - through His Son, Jesus.
These phonies claimed that they had some sort of special, secret knowledge that gave them the answers to spiritual questions. Their "knowledge" of God was mystical in nature and not understandable to just anyone - so they claimed.
Today's story about The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, reminds us that false teachers believe the lies of Satan even though they may talk about Jesus. Keep in mind that though this cult broke away from the Mormon church (a false religion) a long time ago, the basis of their beliefs are the same. The Mormon church talks about Jesus but bases much of its theology on the dreams of its founder and angels. Neither the cult in Texas or the Mormon church believe that salvation is found in Christ and Christ alone.
The Biblical truth is that God has revealed Himself to us in His Word. By sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to earth to become one of us, we can know Him and have a personal relationship with Him.
Jesus is the only way. That's the truth...because He is Truth!
How can we connect today's God's Story scripture to our story?
- Thank God for the Truth He has revealed to you through His Word and the coming of Christ to live as one of us. Praise Him for the truth of Christ's death and resurrection, which pays for your sins and gives you hope now and forever! Ask His Spirit to help you grow through the study of His Word so that you will always be able to recognize what it true and false in our world.
- Learn more about the truth about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints by going to http://www.ankerberg.com/Articles/archives-ap.htm#Mormonism
How can we connect today's story and God's Story scripture and our story to others?
- Pray that the people caught in this cult will come to know the Truth of the risen Savior, Jesus Christ, and put her faith in Him and Him alone.
- Remember that your Mormon friends and neighbors may be some of the nicest, most moral and devoted people you will ever meet, but this does not make them followers of Jesus Christ and His Truth that He is the only way to receive salvation.
- Whenever you hear your friends talking about movies and music that touch on spiritual themes, use it as an opportunity to ask them questions about their story, about what they believe about Jesus.
- Pray for your friends who are being attracted to false religions.

Teen is world 'Guitar Hero'
When it comes to Guitar Hero, a Minnesota teenager is on top of the world -- no strings attached.
Chris Chike, 16, is the Guinness World Record holder for the highest score for a song on the video game "Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock."
In New York City, competing against other gamers, Chike, of Rochester, earned 870,647 points -- or 97 percent completion on the Expert Level -- for the song "Through the Fire and Flames" by DragonForce.
"It's like out of this world," the Century High School junior said just after setting the mark on the plastic guitar.
Players hit buttons (there are no strings) while watching a video screen and score points based on how well they keep time with the song.
"Chris' accomplishments are nothing short of amazing," said Guinness World Records judge Doug Parsons, on hand to certify the attempt.
Chike's record-setting effort at the Web2Zone Cyber Center came during Guinness' launch of its Gamer's Edition 2008.
He said in interview with the Rochester Post-Bulletin that he has gotten a higher score playing at home. He also said he used to play four to five hours a day, but not so much anymore because it's not as challenging.

Guitar glory!
Are you using your abilities for God's glory?
1 Peter 4:10-11
10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. (ESV)
What does today's God's Story scripture teach us about the abilities God has given us?
Peter is challenging two kinds of people in these verses - those who feel like they have no talents at all and those who think they are talented and can use them any way they want, without regard for others.
God has gifted each of us. Ask Him to help you identify yours and use them to serve Him! We honor Christ when we use our abilities to serve others and not just for our own enjoyment and benefit.
Chris Chike, the 16-year-old, who set the Guinness World Record for "Guitar Hero" is a great example of someone with a lot of God-given ability. (I've played "Guitar Hero" and I know how much eye-to-brain-to-hand coordination it must take to be that good at that video game!)
Each of us must recognize that God has not made us all the same. He never intended to - He loves variety! God planned and designed our differences and unique talents. We must be who He created us to be for His glory and to serve others.
How can we connect today's God's Story scripture to our lives?
- Thank God for His unique way of creating you and everyone with unique talents and abilities. Even if you're not sure of your "special gifts" right now, praise Him because He has gifted you! Ask Him to show you your gifts and how to use them for His glory.
- Read other passages that give instruction about spiritual gifts and abilities: Romans 12:6-8, 1st Corinthians 12:8-11, and Ephesians 4:11.
- Pray regularly for God to help you discover your unique gifts and abilities.
- Ask your youth leader, pastor and Christian friends to help you identify your gifts and abilities.
How can we connect today's story, God's Story and our story to others?
- Look for opportunities to use your God-given abilities to build friendships with people who need Jesus. God will show you how to learn to know their stories.
- Play "Guitar Hero" with someone in your storysphere. Afterwards, talk about today's story about the Guinness Word Record holder. Ask your friend or family member about their abilities or point out to them the God-given abilities you see in them. Be ready to share what you've learned in God's Story about using your abilities to bring honor to God.

Bus crash: Waking to disaster

A tour bus filled with high school band students from Pelican Rapids, Minn., flipped at Albertville in the northwest metro area early Saturday, killing one student and leaving dozens injured.
The students were on an all-night trip home from a four-day cultural tour of Chicago when the bus crashed at 5:45 a.m. on Interstate 94, killing 10th-grader Jessica Weishair. Two students were in critical condition Saturday night.
Rescuers spent hours prying students out of the wreckage. Some who were pinned under the bus or thrown from it were taken by ambulance and helicopter to nearby hospitals. The westbound lanes of I-94 in that area were closed all morning.
Some of the students had arms and legs pinned under the bus when firefighters arrived, Peterson said. The bus was carrying 43 students, four chaperones, a tour director and the driver.
Mike Boen of the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office said that Weishair had recently turned 16, had started driving and had just been hired at the Cenex gas station in Pelican Rapids.
Her parents, Stacy and Kim Weishair, run a hair salon in Pelican Rapids and have two other children. "This is just a travesty," Boen said.
In a statement, the Weishairs expressed gratitude "for the love, concern and respect that has been offered to us in the sudden death of our precious Jessica." They added: "Even though we are struggling with our grief, we hold in our thoughts those who have been injured and all the students, staff, chaperones and their families who were involved in the band trip."

Life is but a breath
Our days are numbered...
Psalm 39:4-5 (NLT)
4 “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.
Remind me that my days are numbered—
how fleeting my life is.
5 You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand.
My entire lifetime is just a moment to you;
at best, each of us is but a breath.”
What does today's God's Story scripture teach us about the length of our lives?
It sure seems that David, the writer, was going through an emotional time in his life when he wrote this psalm. Only God knew what was really going on inside David's heart, but we do know this:
- God's Spirit was directing King David to write these holy scriptures for God's glory and for the benefit of all future readers.
- David lived a life of both mountain top and deep valley experiences. He knew first hand the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. God brought him to the place where he understood the temporary in light of the eternal - the earthly in comparison to the heavenly.
Compared to eternity, life is short no matter how long we live. It was especially short for Jessica, the 16-year old student who died suddenly in the bus accident in Minnesota.
You're either a student or someone who is pretty young at heart. If you died tomorrow, others would say your life was too short. When an 85-year-old person dies, his or her life doesn't seem short, but compared to eternity, even their life was but a breath.
If you knew that your 'numbered days' would end in six months, what would you do?
If there is something important you want to do, don't wait. If there is someone who needs to hear that you forgive them or love them, don't put it off. If there is a change that is needed in your spiritual life, trust God now. If there is someone you need to talk to about Jesus, do you really want to wait for a better day?
Life is but a breath - do what is really important in light of eternity!
- Thank God for having the perfect plan for your life, no matter how long or short it may be from an earthly human perspective. Ask His Spirit to give you God's eternal perspective every day. Ask His Spirit to give you the discipline you need to do what is really important.
- Memorize Psalm 39:4-5 as a reminder to see life from God's perspective.
- For one month, make a "to do" list at the beginning of every week. Then prioritize it as you ask God to show you what is really important.
How can we connect today's story and God's Story scripture and our story to others?
- Pray for comfort for the family and friends of Jessica, the girl killed in the accident. Pray for the other students who survived, but are injured. Pray for God to use this story to connect people to Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit.
- Do you have someone in your 'storysphere' who is close to understanding that the greatest part of God's Story is that He sent Jesus to be our Savior? Invite them over to talk. Tell your friend how today's story got you thinking about how life is but a breath. Ask your friend to share his or her perspective on life after death. Share today's scripture found in Psalm 39:4-5 and what it means to you.

Zapped rat causes Stockholm power outage
STOCKHOLM, Sweden—The electrocution of a fat rat in an electric station Saturday caused a three-hour power outage in Stockholm's central train station, halting elevators and escalators.
The early morning outage led to some delays in train traffic, said Jesper Ekenlund, a spokesman for power company Fortum. Nearby hotels and shops also were affected, he said.
"The rat had sneaked into a secondary substation and came into contact with some parts that caused it to short circuit," he said.
"It must have been really big because there's a certain distance between the parts it touched."
Ekenlund said Fortum will now have to decontaminate the area where the rat met its fate.

Cut off!
Do you have a spiritual short circuit?
Isaiah 59:1-2 (NLT)
Warnings against Sin
1 Listen! The Lord’s arm is not too weak to save you,
nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call.
2 It’s your sins that have cut you off from God.
Because of your sins, he has turned away
and will not listen anymore.
According to today's God's Story scripture, what cuts us off from God?
Check out these notes from Tyndale's LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE:
59:1-14 Sin offends our holy God and separates us from him. Because God is holy, he cannot ignore, excuse, or tolerate sin as though it didn't matter. Sin cuts people off from him, forming a wall to isolate God from the people he loves.
When a rat got into an electrical source in Sweden, many stations, stores and people were without power. People were in the dark. They couldn't function in a normal way.
When you and I allow the things of this world to be our focus rather than focusing on giving ourselves to God in complete worship and obedience, we will find ourselves cut off from His power in our lives.
If you want to keep sin from short circuiting your spiritual life, get rid of the "rats". Keep your life "decontaminated".
- Praise God for His ultimate power! Thank Him that the same power that raised Christ form the dead is available to you through the Holy Spirit to live every day. Let His Spirit help you identify any "rats" in your life right now. Confess them and receive Christ's forgiveness. Thank God that He will restore you to a right relationship with Him. Thank Jesus for His love, His guiding light and power to live in obedience to Him.
- Make a written list of the "rats" in your life that often cut you off from God's power. Thank God for using his power to remove them from your life. Keep the list and review it weekly to make sure that these "rats" don't sneak back into your life and short circuit God's power in your life.
- Read the entire chapter of Isaiah 59 to learn more about God's forgiveness of sin.
How can we connect today's story and God's Story scripture and our story to others?
- Make a plan with at least two other Christian friends to hold each other accountable and encourage each other. Whenever the power goes off wherever one of you might be, or a light switch doesn't work, let God's Spirit remind you to contact each other to check on any possible "rats" in your lives.
- Think of friends in your storysphere who are interested in God's Story and your faith story. Use today's rat story to share with them what you have learned about staying connected to God's power in your life every day.

Experts dubious of Georgia 3rd-grader plot
WAYCROSS, Ga. - Allegations that third-graders hatched an elaborate plot to knock out, handcuff and stab their teacher were met with shock by neighbors and with doubt by psychiatry experts who said it is unlikely that children that young seriously intended to hurt anyone.
Police say the plot at Center Elementary School began because the children, ages 8 to 10, were apparently angry after the teacher disciplined one of the students for standing on a chair.
Students brought a crystal paperweight, a steak knife with a broken handle, steel handcuffs and other items as part of last week's plot, police said Tuesday. They said nine students were involved, but prosecutors are seeking juvenile charges against only three of them.
Experts said children that age are certainly imaginative and capable of creating elaborate games. But Dr. Louis Kraus, a child psychiatry expert at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, said he doubts they would have actually attacked.
"The reality is it is highly unlikely they would have been successful at this," Kraus said. "Even if it had begun, it's unclear whether they actually would have followed through with it."
Most premeditated acts of student violence in schools usually don't occur until high school, Kraus said. Younger children have been known to bring knives or other weapons to school, experts said, but often it's more a matter of showing off or acting tough than part of a deliberate assault attempt.
Police said the plot had been organized enough that some students were assigned specific roles such as covering classroom windows and cleaning up any mess.
The district attorney is seeking juvenile charges of conspiracy to commit aggravated assault against an 8-year-old boy and two girls, ages 9 and 10. The girls are also charged with bringing weapons to school.

Have You Ever Committed Murder?
Angry kids may have been planning to murder their teacher.
Matthew 5:21-22 (NLT)
Anger
21
In today's God's Story scripture, what is Jesus teaching us about the connection between murder and anger?
In His 'Sermon On The Mount', Jesus gives us insight into the problem with anger. Killing someone is a horrible sin, but anger is also terrible, because it breaks God's command for us to love others. In this teaching, Jesus is describing a dangerous emotion that is always on the brink of getting out of control. This anger is a bitterness toward others and life. It stems from a spiritual problem and leads to emotional pain, stress, and violence.
Sometimes we may feel pretty good about ourselves because we exercise self-control and don't lash out at someone in anger. Christ wants us to practice self-control, but He also wants us to allow His Spirit to control our thoughts as well. He said that we will be held accountable for our attitudes toward others.
Most of us read the story about the 3rd-graders plotting to attack their teacher and we wonder how little kids could be so angry that they would do this? What are they seeing at home or from the adults in their lives? What kind of TV shows, movies, and video games are they seeing and playing? Their lives seem to be out of control.
If we are abiding in Jesus, His Spirit will be in control of our lives. When His Spirit is in control, our thoughts and actions toward others will be Christ-like.
How can we connect today's God's Story scripture to our story?
- Pray every day for God's Spirit to be in control of your thoughts toward others.
- Write down a list of situations with other people that tend to make you angry. Pray through this list every day, inviting Jesus to help you, change you, and love them.
- Whenever you find yourself feeling anger toward someone, take several minutes to worship Christ. It's hard to remain angry when your focus is on Jesus.
- Pray right now....Thank God for the work of His Holy Spirit in your life. Confess any struggle you have been having with angry thoughts and actions. Ask Jesus to fill you with His love every day. Ask His Spirit to give you a Christ-like, unconditional love for others. Ask His Spirit to help you see others, think about others, and treat others just like Jesus would.
How can you connect today's story and today's God's Story scripture and your story to others?
- If you have treated anyone with angry actions and/or attitudes, go to them and ask for their forgiveness. If they refuse, that's OK. Be humble like Jesus. If they ask why, this could be a great opportunity for you to talk about your story and or God's Story.
- Pray for the 3rd-graders and their families represented in Today's Story. Pray that they will come to understand God's love and forgiveness through Christ and an understanding of what's right and wrong.
- Use Today's Story about the angry 3rd-graders in conversation with others to talk about your own struggle with anger and see if they open up about their own anger issues. You will learn more of their story and you may have the opportunity to share what God's Story teaches about anger.

Vision of the future seen in bionic contact lens
Thumper has seen the future.
Researchers at the University of Washington have created the prototype for a bionic contact lens — recently tested on rabbits — that includes light-emitting diodes, basic wiring for electronic circuits and even a tiny antenna. Future versions, the scientists believe, could serve as a flexible plastic platform for applications such as surfing the Internet on a virtual screen, immersing gamers in virtual worlds and monitoring patients’ medical conditions.
Adding displays directly onto the lenses, visible to the wearers but no one else, could project critical information onto windshields for drivers or pilots or superimpose computer images onto real-world objects for training exercises. And with a wireless connection to the Internet, the lenses could allow bus or train riders to surf the Web on virtual screens suspended in midair or pave the way for gaming enthusiasts to immerse themselves in virtual worlds with no restrictions on their range of motion (although perhaps adding a further nuisance for fellow commuters).
A boon for mobile devices If successful, the bionic lens could prove a huge boon for mobile-device manufacturers.
“One of the problems is that we can make the electronics smaller and smaller, and then the user wants to interface,” Parviz said. “A really tiny display is not useful.” But putting that display directly onto the user’s contact lenses would effectively solve the problem of size and allow personal electronics to continue shrinking.
Whether a future iPod will come equipped with a bionic contact remains to be seen — literally — but a lens with a basic display could be ready in the near future.

Do you need contacts?
Hebrews 12:1-2 (NLT)
And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.
According to today's God's Story scripture, what must we do to be able to see the future that God has planned for us?
If we're followers of Jesus and we take God's Word seriously, we know that this earthly life is all about Him and not us. God's love for us is not based on our performance in this life, but on the fact that we are His children. But, God calls us to keep our eyes on Jesus so that we can run in obedience toward the goal of becoming like Jesus.
Tyndale's LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE describes it this way in the study notes for Hebrews 12:1-2:
The Christian life involves hard work. It requires us to give up whatever endangers our relationship with God, to run patiently, and to struggle against sin with the power of the Holy Spirit. To live effectively, we must keep our eyes on Jesus. We will stumble if we look away from Him to stare at ourselves or at the circumstances surrounding us. We should be running for Christ, not ourselves, and we must always keep Him in sight.
A future day is coming when we will have bionic contacts that allow us to see a virtual reality.
Our future will include the supernatural reality of God displaying His power in our daily lives if we keep our eyes on Jesus.
- Thank God for His constant love for you. Confess any way in which you have taken your eyes off of Jesus. Admit your weaknesses to Him and ask His Spirit to give you the daily discipline to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus.
- Memorize Hebrews 12:2 to remind you of where to look every day.
- If you wear contacts, pray for spiritual sight every time you put them on.
- Ask a friend to hold you accountable in your desire to keep your eyes on Jesus.
How can we connect today's story and God's Story scripture and our story to others?
Tell your friends about the future bionic contact lens that will have a virtual reality display built into it. Have fun brainstorming how this will change or affect your lives. If one of your friends is pretty interested in God's Story and your story, tell him or her how you are learning that the key to seeing what's ahead is to keep your eyes on Jesus. If they ask why or how....you get to tell more of your story!

Victim of mistaken identity draws faith from it

Whitney Cerak carries the events she cannot remember with her constantly, a story of terrible tragedy and great triumph, an experience that has infused her life with purpose and faith.
“It’s going to be with me for the rest of my life,” says the young woman who, in a terrible case of mistaken identity, was thought to be dead for five long weeks in the spring of 2006. “I think about it every day.”
She’s at peace now, thankful for the gift of life that has been given her.
But in the beginning, when she was trying to wrap her mind around everything that she was told had happened, she was tortured by it.
Cerak had been one of nine people in a van returning to Taylor University after a school function. The van had been hit head-on by a tractor trailer whose driver had fallen asleep while driving on I-69 in Indiana.
Five people had been killed, including her classmate, Laura Van Ryn.
Cerak, who grew up in the little Michigan town of Gaylord, suffered multiple broken bones and a severe head injury, and she has no memory of the wreck or the five weeks that followed, when she was hospitalized.
During that time, she was mistaken for Van Ryn. And Van Ryn was buried as her.
Taylor University is an evangelical Christian institution, and Cerak’s deep faith infuses everything she does. But when she understood the enormity of what had happened, her faith was tested as never before.
“It was really hard in the beginning,” she said. “I questioned God all the time. I’d cry out to Him.”
Cerak didn’t understand why she had survived when others had perished. She didn’t understand why her family’s unbridled joy at learning that she was alive should come at the expense of the devastating blow the Van Ryn family had to cope with when they learned that their daughter had been dead for more than a month.
Finally, her father, Newell Cerak, answered her constant question of “Why me?”
“My dad said, ‘Whitney, why not you?’ ”
It was then that she realized it was because her creator had plans for her.
“God, the maker of everything, chose me to do this huge thing that’s going to happen,” she said. “It’s very humbling to know that He chose me. He knew all that was going to happen. He just had a great plan.”
The book that the Van Ryn and Cerak families have written about their experiences, “Mistaken Identity: Two Families, One Survivor, Unwavering Hope,” is part of that plan, she said. Through it and through her story, she is touching lives and witnessing her faith in ways she never could have before.
“I think everything has a plan,” she said. “Mine just happens to be this. It’s such a big role to do.”
Horrific crash
The accident occurred on April 26, 2006, three days before Cerak’s 19th birthday. She was finishing her freshman year in college. The five weeks after the accident, including nearly two weeks spent in a coma, remain a black hole in her memory.
Although she was undergoing rehabilitation for much of that time, tended to by the Van Ryns, who thought she was their daughter, her first memory after the accident is of the emotional day her family, alerted that there may have been a case of mistaken identity, came to see her.
She doesn’t remember everything after that, her memories mainly consisting of how tired she was from the fierce effort to rehabilitate her broken body and wounded brain. Although not fully recovered, she was back at Taylor for the beginning of the fall 2006 semester.
Whitney said she still had cognitive problems when she resumed a three-course workload in that first semester.
“My thinking skills weren’t there,” she said. “I had the mentality of an eighth-grader, and I was in college. I had a lot of growing to do. It’s still a little struggle. It’s like a learning disability. It’s something I live with now.”
With plenty of help from the school community, she made it through that semester, getting better all the time. By last summer, she was well enough to work as a counselor at a summer camp. It was there that she finally felt whole physically.
“My energy was back where it used to be,” she said. “I could run. I played soccer and played basketball.” It was all there, just the way it used to be.
By this past fall, she said, another neurological checkup showed that she had regained all of her mental faculties. “That’s when I felt completely back,” she said.
Whitney is majoring in psychology and is fully caught up with her schoolwork now. A junior, she is enrolled in a foreign studies program in Ireland this semester and savors every moment of life, appreciating it all the more because she knows how close she was to losing it.
In the end, it’s a gift that she has been given and a lesson she has learned in the most difficult way possible.
The lesson is, she says, “knowing not to take things for granted.”

Whitney's story
Romans 8:28-29 (NLT)
28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. 29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
What does today's God's Story scripture teach us about God's plan for our identity? How does He make something "good" out of bad?
Part of the process God uses to make us like Christ is to test our faith. God wants to teach us about Himself and to trust Him in the middle of pain and suffering. As we trust Him, our endurance will grow and our character will become more Christ-like.
In those tough times, God wants to teach us His attributes. For example, we'll learn that He is completely in control (Isaiah 55:8-9); that He is infinite in wisdom (Romans 11:33-36); and that He is perfect in love (Psalm 32:10).
Whitney Cerak has learned that God's plan is perfect in all ways. He doesn't make any mistakes. Her identity is looking a lot like Jesus.
How can we connect today's God's Story scripture to our lives?
- Thank God that though He will not keep you from all pain and suffering, He will never leave you alone with your problems. Praise Him for being in control, infinite in wisdom and that His love for you is perfect! Ask Him for the faith you need to trust Him when you are tested.
- Memorize all of today's scripture. It could be some of the most powerful truth in your mind and heart for the rest of your life.
- Write down whatever problems you are currently facing. They may not be as terrible as what Whitney and her family and the Laura Van Ryn family went through, but they may still be painful to you. Your loving Father wants you to come to Him. Every day this week, go to God in prayer about them and ask Him to use them to teach you about His love and plan for your life.
- Talk to your youth leader, pastor or another Christian friend about what you've written down and ask for their input and prayer.
How can we connect today's story and God's Story and our story to others?
- If you have a friend who is a Christ follower and based on previous conversation, you know that today's DAILYBIDE could encourage them, send it to him or her. BUT, make sure that this friend is beyond the shock and initial grief in their difficult experience.
- When someone in your storysphere, who is not a Christ follower, experiences pain and suffering, pray for him or her. Pray also for Jesus to show you how to care for this person in their difficult situation. You may need to just be there and listen or cry with them for a long time. At some point, as you abide in Jesus, His Spirit will prompt you what to say and when to say it.
- Thank God for how He is already using Whitney's story and pray that many will come to know Christ because of God using her identity in Christ.

Watch out, it's April 1
APRIL Fool's Day has its origin in France and came about when the Gregorian calendar was adopted in the 16th century.
New Year's Day switched from being April 1 to January 1. Word of the new calendar spread slowly and those who did not know about it or who forgot the change or ignored it and attempted to celebrate New Year on the wrong date were teased as April fools.
They were ridiculed by being sent foolish gifts and invitations to non-existent parties.
French peasants would unexpectedly drop in on neighbours in an effort to confuse them into thinking they were receiving a New Year's call. Out of that one jape supposedly grew the tradition of testing the patience of family and friends.
Over a period of nearly 200 years, the custom of playing jokes spread from France to England and on to the US.

Are you crazy?
2 Corinthians 5:13-15 (NLT)
13 If it seems we are crazy, it is to bring glory to God. And if we are in our right minds, it is for your benefit. 14 Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. 15 He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.
In today's God's Story scripture, why was Paul "crazy"? Why does he challenge us to be "fools" for Christ?
The apostle Paul was a total "fool" for Christ! Paul knew that it was Christ's love that drove him to live "crazy" for God's glory! Like Paul and Christ's disciples, we should be willing to die for Christ's cause, because He died and rose from the grave for us.
Jesus Christ's disciples began the spreading of Truth all around the world because they believed in God's Kingdom cause. They believed that the death and resurrection of Christ was the Truth that would provide eternal hope to every person who would trust Jesus as Savior.
According to history, the original "April Fools" were those who forgot or ignored certain facts about a date and were as a result, teased or ridiculed.
In Paul's day and today, from the world's perspective, anyone who is a devoted follower of Christ and a messenger of the Good News is a "fool" and often teased or ridiculed.
Sadly, the truth is that anyone who ignores the truth about God's love and forgiveness will be a "fool" forever.
Are you willing to follow Jesus no matter what? His Holy Spirit will empower you to be a "fool" for His honor and glory!
How can we connect today's God's Story scripture to our lives?
- Praise God for His Holy Spirit's power to enable you to be a "fool" for His Kingdom! Ask Jesus to give you the desire to follow His instructions to serve Him with your life, even it means giving up your life some day for living out His love and sharing His Truth.
- Begin each day for the next two weeks by simply praying for the power of God's Holy Spirit to control every part of your life. Write down what you learn.
- Write down the names of five friends or family members who might think of you as sort of a "fool" because of your faith in Christ. Pray every day for each of them to see the love of Christ in you.
How can we connect today's story and God's Story scripture and our story to others?
Every time you hear or see an April Fool's Day joke or prank today, pray that those in your storysphere will come to see that the reason you are a "fool" for Christ is because His Truth has changed your story forever.
